Neighbors Changing Destiny’s.

Across Westland and the surrounding community, we meet families where they are — with groceries, clothing, training, business startup, and help for individuals returning home from incarceration. We care and treat every neighbor with dignity.

Our mission

We serve.

Supporting individuals and families through education, revitalization, and giving them a voice of empowerment.

Community development means more than handing out resources at an event — it means listening to our neighbors, connecting them to real support, and helping them take the next step.

Our story

Service that shows up.

New Destiny Community Development Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization standing with individuals and families across Westland and its surrounding areas. Our volunteers call themselves Destiny Changers — because when a neighbor is in need, showing up with care, dignity, and real help can change the course of a life.

Our commitments: dignity, education, empowerment, collaboration, and community voice.

Five service areas.

Five commitments guide everything we do for the families of Westland and its surrounding communities.

Food / Baby Pantry

From weekly pantry staples to a trunk full of Thanksgiving turkeys, our volunteers shop, haul, sort, and pack real groceries for real neighbors — because no family in Westland or the communities around it should ever have to choose between dinner and dignity. When the cupboards are bare, a full box of groceries says what words can’t: you matter, and you are not alone.

What this includes

  • Community food distributions and pantry staples
  • Baby essentials, as supplies allow
  • Seasonal and holiday grocery support
  • Community food drives with local partners and donors
  • Connections to other food resources when needs go further

Our goal: Ease today’s hunger while connecting families to resources that steady the household.

If your family needs groceries or baby essentials, please don’t hesitate — call us at 248-974-1554 or reach out through our Facebook page ↗

Workforce Ready — Skilled Trades

A steady job changes everything — a paycheck becomes stability, and stability becomes a future. We help neighbors across Westland and the surrounding areas prepare for skilled-trade careers and the workforce, with guidance, encouragement, and a whole community cheering them on.

What this includes

  • Resume preparation and interview readiness
  • Professional presentation and workplace expectations
  • Career exploration and in-demand skills
  • Referrals to skilled-trades training and apprenticeships — construction, electrical, plumbing, welding, automotive, heating & cooling, manufacturing, and truck driving
  • Connections to employers and training providers

Our goal: Help each person move from uncertainty about work toward a clear, achievable career plan.

Family Life Planning — Counseling

Strong families build strong neighborhoods — and no family should have to face life’s hardest seasons alone. Through family life planning and counseling, we walk with individuals and families through life’s biggest decisions, offering wisdom, support, and a steady hand to hold.

What this includes

  • Financial literacy, budgeting, and money management
  • Credit education and saving basics
  • Homeownership and legacy-planning education
  • Parenting and family life education
  • Referrals to qualified counselors — marriage, family, grief, substance-use, and domestic-violence support

Our goal: Equip families to navigate hard seasons and make informed decisions with confidence.

Business Incubator

Great businesses start with one brave idea — and someone who believes in the person behind it. Our incubator gives local entrepreneurs the guidance and support to turn their ideas into thriving enterprises that lift the whole community.

What this includes

  • Business idea development and goal setting
  • Business plan preparation
  • Marketing fundamentals and finding your customers
  • Budgeting, pricing, and financial basics
  • Information on registration and start-up requirements
  • Researching locations and funding opportunities, plus mentor connections

Our goal: Help aspiring entrepreneurs move from an idea to a prepared, practical plan.

Welcome Home Reentry

Everyone deserves a true welcome home. We meet returning neighbors with the essentials — fresh clothing, a hot meal — and something just as vital: a community that believes in second chances, and refuses to let anyone’s past have the final word.

What this includes

  • Clothing and essential items when available
  • Employment preparation and workforce referrals
  • Connections to housing providers and assistance resources
  • Education, training, and entrepreneurship referrals
  • A supportive community network that believes in second chances

Our goal: Help returning citizens navigate the way home with resources, support, and real opportunity.
